Orlando’s new trash, sewer and stormwater rates: what changed on October 1, 2026

The city tax rate stayed put. Trash and sewer went up on your OUC bill, and more steps are already scheduled through 2030.

· 3 min read · Orlando, Orange County

The City of Orlando started a new budget year on October 1, 2026. The city kept its property tax rate the same. But two charges on the OUC bill that most Orlando homeowners pay every month went up that same day: trash pickup and sewer. A third charge, the stormwater fee, is rising on the county tax bill. Here is what changed, what it costs a typical home, and what is already scheduled for the next few years.

Trash pickup: $26.73 a month

The City Council approved new solid waste rates on June 8, 2026. A single-family home now pays $26.73 a month for city trash pickup, $3.28 more than before. That is about $39 more a year. The charge shows up on your OUC bill, not your tax bill.

The increase is the first step of a four-year plan. Under the rates the council approved, the single-family charge goes to $29.94 a month next year, $31.44 the year after, and $33.01 in fiscal 2030. If you budget a year ahead, plan on about $3 more each October.

Sewer: a higher base charge and usage charge

New sewer rates took effect October 1, also approved by the council on June 8. For homes inside city limits, the monthly base charge went from $25.60 to $28.03. The usage charge went from $6.18 to $6.77 for every 1,000 gallons of water, and the city only bills sewer usage up to 14,000 gallons a month, so water you use past that point (for example, on the lawn) is not charged for sewer.

The city’s own example: a home that uses 7,000 gallons a month now pays $75.42 for sewer. Using the city’s published rates, the same home paid $68.86 before, so the increase is about $6.56 a month. Add the trash increase and that home pays roughly $9.84 more a month, or about $118 a year. More sewer increases are scheduled every year through fiscal 2030, when the base charge reaches $36.13 and the usage charge reaches $8.72 per 1,000 gallons.

Stormwater: billed by the square foot, on your tax bill

The stormwater fee pays for the drains, pipes and ponds that keep Orlando streets from flooding. It is not based on your home’s value. It is based on how many square feet of your lot are roofed or paved, and it is charged on your Orange County property tax bill. The city had not changed it since 2008 before starting a four-year increase in October 2024. The fiscal 2027 rate is $0.12138 per square foot, up from $0.10115, and it goes to $0.12745 the year after. By our math, a home with 3,000 square feet of roof and driveway would go from about $303 to about $364 a year.

The city tax rate did not change

The new city budget is about $1.88 billion and keeps the city tax rate at 6.6500 mills, the same rate the city has used for more than a decade. A mill is $1 of tax for every $1,000 of taxable value. Your city tax can still rise if your home’s taxable value rose. The city’s example home has $366,300 of taxable value after the $50,000 homestead exemption and pays $2,436 a year in city tax. Orange County also kept its countywide rate at 4.4347 mills.

What to do now

  1. Open your next OUC bill and find the trash and sewer lines. Check that the trash line reads $26.73 for a single-family home.
  2. Look at your water use. Fixing a running toilet or a leaky irrigation line now saves on both water and sewer, since sewer is billed by the gallon up to 14,000.
  3. Watch for your property tax bill in November. Florida gives 4% off if you pay in November, 3% in December, 2% in January and 1% in February.
  4. Questions about the tax bill: Orange County Tax Collector, (407) 434-0312. Questions about city trash or sewer rates: call 311 or visit orlando.gov.
